Poynton Flooding

Council teams continue big clean up after Poynton flooding.

Cheshire East Council highways teams are continuing a major clean up operation in Poynton tonight after yesterday’s flash flooding, which caused widespread disruption and some damage.

With the standing water subsided, highways engineers can assess the state of roads and support the community with the removal of damaged property such as carpets, if required.

Middlewood Road in Higher Poynton, remains closed owing to the extent of the damage caused in yesterday’s flash floods, which turned roads into rivers.

The Council will draw up a detailed action plan of remedial works to all affected highways in the Poynton area and that will be extended to include any structures and public rights of way.

Residents are asked to continue to be vigilant and to exercise caution whilst walking and driving around the Poynton area owing to the possibility of damaged roads and footways.

Met Office warnings predicted up to 25mm of rainfall in an hour.

Anyone needing assistance can contact the Council’s helpline on 0300 123 5025.
