Best of British Celebrated on College Catwalk

Best of British Celebrated on College Catwalk

British culture, history and of course the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee were celebrated in style with a fun catwalk show staged by Hair and Beauty students at Macclesfield College recently.

The show kicked off to a great start with Congleton based touring stars ‘The Forces Sweethearts’ capturing the music of the war years in a nostalgic tribute to The Andrews Sisters and Dame Vera Lynn.

Guests were then taken on a ‘Journey Through the Ages’ by Charleston dancers in fringed flapper outfits with hairstyles to match who captured the roaring 20s perfectly and models  who proved that the ‘make do and mend’ attitude of the wartime 40s were not without their fair share of glamorous make-up and hair.

The glamour was stepped up a notch with Marilyn Monroe’s iconic hair and make-up and the fashions of rock ‘n’ roll showcasing the style of the 1950s. The coronation decade of the 1950s was contrasted with this year’s Diamond Jubilee as Union Jack inspired styles created by the young
hairdressers and beauty students took to the stage.

This year’s Media Make-up students then took over the catwalk showcasing their talents with an avante-garde display of ‘Britishness with a twist’. Friends, relatives and prospective students enjoyed the monochrome face art with matching outfits and red, white and blue body art celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The evening, which provided a fantastic platform for the work of the Hair and Media Make-up students was supported by College Events Management students who helped to plan and orchestrate the show and all proceeds were donated to the charity ‘Help for Heroes’.
