BID TO CONDUCT AT ‘PROMS ON THE PITCH’ RAISES £300 AT CHARITY AUCTION
An opportunity to conduct at ‘Proms on the Pitch’ on Sunday 3rd June raised £300 as part of a
charity auction earlier this year. The auction took place at the 50th birthday party of Simon Hayward, Managing Partner of Cirrus, a Leadership Development company based in Macclesfield.
“A good friend of mine, Adam Broadbent, has been receiving very special care at the Christie in
Manchester,” says Simon. “He was the inspiration to raise money for the hospital and so we set up the 505050 Challenge with the aim of getting 50 people to run 50 miles (individually or in teams) to raise £50,000 for the charity.”
The launch raised £8,500 towards this total, including the £300 bid to conduct at ‘Proms on the
Pitch’. The successful bidder was Kate Pearson on behalf of The Three Partnership, a Manchester-based Executive Recruitment company.
“I was delighted to bid successfully for the opportunity to conduct at ‘Proms on the Pitch’,” says Kate. “The Three Partnership has worked closely with Simon in the past and we were keen to show our support for this superb fundraising initiative. However, I’ve decided I’d like to hand the baton on and let someone else take centre stage on the day!”
Nicholas Smith, who will conduct the Proms Symphony Orchestra at 'Proms on the Pitch’, is confident someone else will take up the challenge.
“We’re looking for someone who won’t take it too seriously but will see it very much as a bit
of fun,” he says. “They don’t need to be musical, they just need to get into the spirit of the thing. Even though the conductor’s back is turned away from the audience for most of the performance you still tend to be the centre of attention, so the person who takes this on should definitely enjoy being in the spotlight!”
Anyone interested in taking up the challenge should email info@promsonthepitch.net with ‘Conduct
at the Proms’ in the subject box. Please tell us a little bit about yourself, why you’d like to take part and a contact telephone number. We’d be delighted if you’d like to throw some money into the 505050 pot as well, so if applicable please tell us how much you’d like to donate. The successful applicant will be contacted by Monday 21May.
