Following its recent lively and well attended AGM Make it Macclesfield has refocused. MiM is excited at the prospect of working with the newly elected Town Council to make Macclesfield a great place to live and work and visit.

The Culture & Heritage group are making the published culture and heritage vision happen and the team is already making great progress. The Comms team have new members and are excited about what they can achieve with The Thread, Canalside and MiM. Watch out for the new look The Thread, listen to the radio, get excited about the new town guide and enjoy the Midsummer events. If you have any ideas about what else we can achieve please let us know.

Two new working groups have been started, the first setting out to engage the community, both individuals and organisations. The second to identify and address projects that would make a real difference to the appearance of the town centre. As an example, the MIM-initiated Shop Front improvement programme, being implemented by CEC, is making a real difference on Chestergate.

The other working group is the Business Improvement District project. BIDs have had great success in other market towns and we hope to make that difference here, if you would like to get involved please let us know.

Make it Macclesfield intends to hold regular meetings with David Rutley MP, CEC Borough Councillors, as well as developing a good working relationship with the new Town Council. We look forward to ensuring that our objectives all align. We will keep you informed of dates.

“The energy and enthusiasm demonstrated by our Members in recent weeks has been brilliant and the creation of the Town Council will give us a great opportunity to focus that community energy and commitment where it’s needed and where it can make a real difference”, said MIM Chair Clare Hayward.

We have the “Make it Macclesfield Midsummer 2015” programme to look forward to and we are keen to support Incubation Arts in their ambition to develop a Joy Division exhibition enabling us and the world to celebrate our music legacy.
Meanwhile, MIM is still looking for new Members and for volunteers to join the Board; in particular, someone with a strong financial background would be very welcome.
