At the meeting, the CIC’s Accounts and the associated Social Audit Report for the year ended 31st March 2017 will be put to Members for approval and Members will also be asked to propose and elect the company’s Board for the next year.
The current Board has been considering how MIM might best represent its Members interests in the future of the town and last week it voted unanimously to ask Members to approve a change to its role and modus operandi to better address the fundamental issues the Board believes that Macclesfield is facing.
It is the Board’s considered view that local governance structures put in place in recent years are failing to recognise and address the needs of Macclesfield and other Cheshire market towns that make our part of the world unique.
The Board believes that the processes of devolution and regional development exemplified by our unitary authorities and the Local Enterprise Partnership are too focused on a small number of major projects which, though they are of regional importance, do little to sustain communities like ours.
The Board will therefore propose that MIM campaigns for material change to give Macclesfield the power to determine its own destiny by giving it access to its fair share of the available resources and the power to determine how it is allocated through a transparent, accountable. and fit for purpose governance structure.
Whilst only Members will be able to vote at the Annual General Meeting non-members would be very welcome to attend.
We invite you to join us on June 15th to engage in this important debate.
