First Team goes back to the classroom at Tytherington School

Tytherington SchoolTytherington School has teamed up with Macclesfield-based leadership advisor and former head of performance at Manchester City Football Club, Pete Lowe, to translate some lessons from the Premiership into the sphere of education.

Pete, who founded First Team Ltd, spent more than 13 years in the Premiership and has an exceptional track record in talent management, helping to create 39 first team players and 25 international footballers.

Headteacher Emmanuel Botwe, who joined Tytherington School in September 2015, will be working with Pete to focus the school’s sense of ambition and build on its existing credentials.

Emmanuel comes from a deputy headship role in Didcot, Oxfordshire, where he worked with the senior team to move the school into the top 3 per cent of all state schools for progress made at GCSE. While academic performance is key for him, he places equal emphasis on creating a culture of restless ambition, strong values and greater connectivity with the local community.

Commenting on the appointment of Pete Lowe, Emmanuel said: “Pete’s belief in an unrelenting commitment to continuous improvement is really exciting and motivating. He is helping us to hold a mirror up to ourselves and be brave enough to think differently and imaginatively about the way we do things. It’s about drawing on the solid foundation we already have in place and continually raising the bar. His enthusiasm is contagious and has real potential to influence the whole school.”

Pete added: “Emmanuel is a headteacher who believes in leading by example, with the vision and energy to learn from other sectors and translate these insights into the school environment, which is a breath of fresh air. I’m working with his team to develop a culture of empowerment, encouraging people to challenge the accepted, which will inspire the students as tomorrow’s leaders.”
