Oh What a Weekend!

Wow! I’m exhausted, but what a fabulous Barnaby weekend! I hope that you got involved in some of the many events that have taken over the town since Thursday and will join me in saying thanks to Team Barnaby…

For me there were so many magical moments, but the real joy was to see the streets of Macclesfield lined with people from near and far with expressions of amusement and happiness as they discovered yet another creative art installation or street performance. The whole town was alive with activity and a wonderfully vibrant feel.

The parade was bursting with characters sitting under the four sections: Earth, Air, Fire and Water – I spotted dozens of jellyfish, an army of angels and firey devils. There was music, laughter, dancing but most of all smiles – both from those who’ve spent months up to their elbows in papier-mâché to and those that simply stood back and admired the spectacle.

So, thanks to everyone involved in Barnaby 2012 and thank you Macclesfield for supporting such a diverse cultural extravaganza. Just one thing… Do we really have to wait until next June for the next one?

I loved the crazed man in a bowler hat who shot around the crowds on Sunday with an arsenal of deafening noises in his briefcase, the fantastic performance by Jo Bell at the Town Hall, the steel band rendition of Michael Jackson hits at the alfresco feast in Market place, the Crows roosting in King Edwards St chapel, the eyes in the shipping container popup Gallery at The Heritage Centre….I could go on but I’ve lost the power of speech!
