Make it Macclesfield Press Release

mim logo nameMIM Supports Call for Change of Culture and Practice at Cheshire East

The board of Make It Macclesfield (MiM) has expressed its support to the Hands Off Our Sandbach Action Groups (HOOS) and Residents of Wilmslow (RoW) who have both recently written to Sajid Javid, The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government asking him to investigate the operations of Cheshire East Council. HOOS & RoW described their frustrations with Cheshire East Council and asked the Secretary of State to intervene.

In an open letter to the HOOS Chairman Ian Knowlson, MiM stopped short of directly asking for external intervention by the Secretary of State, but instead expressed their hope that CEC will recognize the seriousness of the problems arising from their recent difficulties and continue to put their own house in order.

Make It Macclesfield is a community interest company setup on behalf of its members, to promote Macclesfield as a place to live and work; and to encourage inward investment and development in the town. Earlier this year its members passed a motion asking the board to campaign for greater transparency and accountability in the public and civic governance of Macclesfield and Cheshire East.

As extensively reported in the Macclesfield Express, it was recently announced that Cheshire East Council intend to embark on a major regeneration project in Macclesfield Town Centre. Make It Macclesfield strongly believes the success or otherwise of this initiative is contingent on public trust in and respect for the Council. If Cheshire East cannot rely on the pre-requisite levels of public confidence as it attempts to make smooth progress with the regeneration plans then the future of Macclesfield Town Centre will be put at risk.

MiM requests that Cheshire East Council acknowledge the need for root and branch change to the cultures and practices that have prevailed and recommends that CEC introduce very specific plans to mandate openness, transparency and adequate public consultation for any current and future regeneration or development projects in Macclesfield.
