Since 1989, the multi-award winning Lions Youth Brass has been warming the hearts of many through their highly emotive and entertaining talents, performing all over the world. Macclesfield & District Lions Clubs is just one of many clubs in the local district of Lions Clubs International – the world’s largest community service organisation, which celebrates its centenary this month – to support the band with sponsorship and will, on Saturday 15th July, hold its annual concert with them at Kings School.
The Lions Youth Brass comprises three bands and were highly successful at the recent National Youth Brass Band Championships 2017 held at The University of Salford. In the Championship Section, the Youth Band, conducted by Nigel Birch, won the Silver Award whilst their Junior Band, under Tom Hancock was also awarded Silver and the Beginners Band, under Chris Thompson, was awarded a Certificate of Merit.

In the last financial year 2015-2016 Macclesfield & District Lions made over 40 grants for a total of nearly £20,000, the largest being to BBC Children in Need, Middlewood Riding for the Disabled, East Cheshire Hospice, Bosley Disaster Appeal, Mary Sunley Canal Boat Charity, Lions Youth Brass and Girlguilding Bollington.
In the previous year help given to 2 schools in Bollington to help purchase defibrillators and a substantial donation to Prestbury Park Playground.
